How would you rather be
charged on your phone bill: by the minute, or by 6-second
increments? Why pay for a minute when you only talked 12 seconds?
The billing methods for transcription services
should be similar; we believe you should not be charged for a "line" when it is not a filled line!
Since 1989, Medi-Task
has used the incremental method - by the word.
Why not fall in with the rest of
the industry and charge by the line? Because historically, the
industry has "fattened" line-counts by using formatting techniques
(margin narrowing, thicker fonts, headers followed by drop-down
information), or padding customers' line-counts by using
"gross-line" counting methods where even one character on a line evokes a full-line charge. Some companies use specialized counting software that
calculates word or line-counts to the best advantage of the
transcription company, leaving the customer high-and-dry when it
comes to auditing. Others charge double, triple or quadruple
for words which are bolded, underlined,
and/or italicized! You must know your
transcription company's counting methods to be sure you are being
charged fairly.
| Charging by 5-character words is simply the fairest counting method available. |
